SUMMERFIELD TWP., MI. (THECOUNT) — Lance Dusseau, 47, of Petersburg, Michigan, was killed Sunday night in a motorcycle crash involving a dog in Summerfield Township in Monroe County, south of the Detroit metropolitan area and near the Ohio state line.
According to a press release from Monroe County Sheriff Troy Goodnough, Dusseau and his 19-year-old son, Clayton Dusseau, were riding motorcycles westbound on Ida West Road at approximately 9:18 p.m. when a dog ran into the roadway.

The dog entered the path of Clayton’s black 2015 Harley-Davidson Street Glide Special motorcycle and struck the motorcycle’s left-side saddlebag, investigators said.
After being hit, the dog was forced into the path of Lance Dusseau’s black 2017 Harley-Davidson Street Glide motorcycle. Dusseau struck the animal, lost control of his motorcycle and left the roadway, according to the sheriff’s office.
The motorcycle then struck a mailbox post on the south side of Ida West Road. Dusseau was thrown from the motorcycle, which came to rest on a private lot, officials said.
Lance Dusseau was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries sustained in the crash. Sheriff’s officials said he was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.
Clayton Dusseau was able to bring his motorcycle to a controlled stop on the south side of the roadway. He was not injured and was released from the scene.
The condition of the dog was not immediately disclosed. Officials have not said whether the animal survived or received veterinary treatment following the collision.
Alcohol was not believed to be a factor in the crash, according to Goodnough’s office.
Members of the Summerfield Township Volunteer Fire Department, Monroe Community Ambulance, the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office Victim Services Unit and the department’s Chaplain Program assisted at the scene.
The crash remains under investigation by the Monroe County Sheriff’s Office. Authorities have not released additional information about the dog or explained how it entered the roadway.
