CAMBRIDGE, MD. (THECOUNT)Alivea Todd, 18, of Cambridge, Maryland, was killed Tuesday afternoon when the Ford Explorer she was driving crashed and overturned on Church Creek Road in Cambridge, according to Maryland State Police.

Cambridge is a city in Dorchester County on Maryland’s Eastern Shore, along the Choptank River and approximately 90 miles east of Washington, D.C.

Maryland State Police said troopers from the Easton Barrack were dispatched around 4:14 p.m. Aug. 11 to the 2300 block of Church Creek Road, also designated Maryland Route 16, after receiving a report of a single-vehicle crash.

According to the preliminary investigation, Todd was traveling southbound in a Ford Explorer as she approached a left-hand curve. For reasons that remain unknown, the vehicle lost control and traveled off the roadway.

The Explorer subsequently overturned, police said. Todd was the sole occupant identified in the preliminary information released by authorities.

Troopers and emergency personnel responded to the crash scene, where Todd was pronounced deceased. Authorities have not released additional information concerning the circumstances that caused the vehicle to leave the roadway.

The crash remains under investigation by the Maryland State Police. Investigators have not indicated that any other vehicles were involved.

Church Creek Road is a major roadway serving the Cambridge area and surrounding portions of Dorchester County. The location of the crash is within the Cambridge community on Maryland’s Eastern Shore.

The roadway was closed for nearly two hours while troopers investigated the collision and processed the crash scene. The closure allowed investigators to document the overturned vehicle and gather evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.

Police have not released information regarding whether weather, roadway conditions, speed, impairment or any other factor contributed to the crash. The preliminary investigation remains subject to further findings by state police.

No additional victims or injuries were reported in the information released by Maryland State Police.

The investigation will determine the circumstances leading up to the crash and why the Ford Explorer lost control while approaching the curve. Authorities have not announced any charges related to the incident.
