BOGALUSA, LA. (THECOUNT)William “Bill” Day, 68, and his wife, Tommie Slagle Day, 69, both of Seguin, Texas, were killed Thursday when the Beechcraft Bonanza they were aboard crashed shortly after takeoff near George R. Carr Memorial Airfield in Bogalusa, Louisiana, according to authorities.

Bogalusa is located in Washington Parish in southeastern Louisiana, approximately 70 miles north of New Orleans and near the Mississippi state line.

According to the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office, emergency crews responded to the crash at approximately 10:48 a.m. Thursday after the aircraft went down in a wooded area near George R. Carr Memorial Airfield.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the Beechcraft Bonanza crashed shortly after departing the airport. Both Bill Day and Tommie Slagle Day were pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities confirmed that the couple’s next of kin have been notified. Officials have not said where the aircraft was headed before the crash.

The cause of the crash has not been determined. The Federal Aviation Administration is leading the investigation and is expected to release additional information as it becomes available.

Officials said no other injuries were reported in connection with the crash.

The investigation remains active, and authorities have not announced a possible cause of the accident.
