Flock Camera ID’s Ginger Dixon As Driver In Friday Statesville Fatal Hit-And-Run

STATESVILLE, NC. (THECOUNT) — Carla Nichols, 64, of Statesville, North Carolina, was killed Friday night after being struck by an alleged hit-and-run driver while attempting to cross a roadway in Statesville, according to the Statesville Police Department. Authorities identified Ginger Dixon, 45, as the suspected driver and said she has been charged in connection with the fatal crash.

Officers responded at approximately 9:15 p.m. Friday to the intersection of South Oakland Avenue and West Garner Bagnal Boulevard following reports of a vehicle striking a pedestrian.

When officers arrived, they located Nichols unresponsive off the side of the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary investigation determined Nichols was walking on South Oakland Avenue while attempting to cross West Garner Bagnal Boulevard when she was struck by a vehicle. Police said the driver fled the scene without stopping to render aid or notify authorities.

Investigators used the department’s Flock Safety camera system during the investigation, which helped identify the suspect vehicle as a red 1998 Dodge Dakota.

Police later identified Dixon as the alleged driver of the pickup. She was taken into custody and charged with felony hit-and-run causing death. Authorities said Dixon was issued no bond following her arrest.

Investigators indicated additional charges could be filed as the investigation continues.

The Statesville Police Department has not released any additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the collision, and the investigation remains active.

Statesville is located in Iredell County in western North Carolina, about 40 miles north of Charlotte and along the Interstate 77 corridor.
