RIVERSIDE, CA. (THECOUNT) — Peter Mullis, 42, was killed Monday after being struck by a fleeing motorist during a police pursuit near Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center in Riverside, California, according to authorities. Mullis was an employee of Kaiser Permanente.
The fatal collision occurred near Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Park Sierra Drive. Riverside is located in Southern California’s Inland Empire, approximately 60 miles east of Los Angeles.

According to the Riverside Police Department, officers attempted to conduct a traffic stop at approximately 11:40 a.m. Monday for an alleged vehicle code violation. Authorities said the driver initially yielded to officers before fleeing eastbound on Magnolia Avenue, prompting a police pursuit.
During the pursuit, the suspect vehicle struck Mullis near the medical center. Emergency responders transported him to Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.
The suspect fled the scene and remained at large as of Tuesday. Riverside police have not released a description of either the driver or the vehicle involved in the fatal collision.
The Riverside Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office identified the victim Tuesday as Peter Mullis, 42.
Eastbound Magnolia Avenue between Skofstad Street and Polk Street, along with all lanes of Park Sierra Drive, were temporarily closed for several hours while investigators processed the scene.
Kaiser Permanente released a statement expressing condolences to Mullis’ family, friends and coworkers.
“We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of one of our employees in a traffic incident near Riverside Medical Center on July 27,” the statement said. “Our heartfelt condolences are with the employee’s family, friends and colleagues during this difficult time.”
The healthcare provider added that its focus remains on supporting those affected by the tragedy and referred questions regarding the investigation to the Riverside Police Department.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist Mullis’ family with expenses following his death.

The Riverside Police Department continues to investigate the fatal hit-and-run and is seeking information that may help identify and locate the suspect.
