CA Firefighter Stan Reza ID’d As Victim In Friday Whittier Fatal Freeway Crash

WHITTIER, CA. (THECOUNT)Stan Reza, 35, a Los Angeles Fire Department firefighter, was killed Friday in an off-duty crash involving a pickup truck and a big rig on the northbound 605 Freeway near Beverly Boulevard in Whittier, California, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department and California Highway Patrol. Reza was driving the pickup truck when the collision occurred.

Whittier is located in Los Angeles County in Southern California, southeast of downtown Los Angeles and within the greater Los Angeles metropolitan area. The crash occurred on one of the region’s major freeway corridors, which is investigated by the California Highway Patrol.

According to the Los Angeles Fire Department, Reza was a three-year member of the department. Officials said he was off duty at the time of the crash.

The collision was reported around 2:20 a.m. Friday on the northbound 605 Freeway near Beverly Boulevard, according to the California Highway Patrol, which is leading the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Authorities said Reza was operating a pickup truck that collided with a commercial big rig. The impact resulted in fatal injuries, and emergency responders pronounced Reza dead at the scene.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined Reza died from blunt traumatic injuries sustained in the crash.

Los Angeles Fire Department Chief Jaime Moore expressed condolences to Reza’s family, friends and fellow firefighters following the announcement of his death.

“Our thoughts are with the firefighter’s family and with every member of this department who is grieving alongside them,” Moore said, according to the department. Officials asked the public and media to keep Reza’s loved ones and fellow firefighters in their thoughts.

The Los Angeles Fire Department said additional details regarding service and memorial arrangements will be released once plans are finalized.

The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the crash. Authorities have not released additional information regarding the events leading up to the collision.
