PAGE COUNTY, IA. (THECOUNT)Roselyn “Rosie” Stark, 63, of Essex, Iowa, died Saturday night after being struck by a sport utility vehicle while walking near or on a roadway in rural Page County, Iowa, according to the Iowa State Patrol. The driver, Elyzabeth Henry, remained at the scene as authorities launched an investigation into the fatal collision.

Page County is located in southwest Iowa near the Missouri border. The fatal crash occurred on D Avenue approximately 2,300 feet south of 130th Street, north of the community of Essex.

The Iowa State Patrol said it was contacted shortly before 10:00 p.m. Saturday by the Page County Sheriff’s Office, which requested assistance with a crash involving a pedestrian and a vehicle.

According to the preliminary crash investigation, Henry was operating a 2014 Toyota Venza southbound on D Avenue when the SUV struck Stark, who was walking near or on the roadway.

Emergency responders were dispatched to the scene following the collision. Authorities said Stark sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead as a result of the crash.

Officials did not immediately release additional information regarding the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Investigators have not announced whether any citations or charges are expected. The Iowa State Patrol continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash, including the events immediately preceding the collision.

No additional injuries were reported in the initial crash report.

Authorities have not released further information as the investigation remains active.
