BOTETOURT COUNTY, VA. (THECOUNT) — Andrew David Lee Camp, 36, of Callaway, Virginia, was killed Tuesday evening after the motorcycle he was operating struck a Honda pickup truck from behind on Interstate 81 in Botetourt County. An unidentified driver was operating the pickup truck involved in the crash.

Camp was pronounced dead at the scene. According to the Virginia State Police, the crash occurred around 6:07 p.m. on Tuesday, July 7, on Interstate 81, approximately one-half mile south of Brughs Mill Road.

Police said Camp was riding a 1994 Harley-Davidson northbound on I-81 and was traveling in and out of traffic, moving between vehicles. Troopers reported that the motorcycle struck the rear of a 2002 Honda pickup truck. Camp was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the Honda pickup truck was not injured. No charges have been filed at this time. Virginia State Police said the Crash Reconstruction Team responded to assist with the investigation.

Interstate 81 is a major north-south corridor that runs through the Roanoke Valley and Botetourt County in western Virginia. The section where the crash occurred is a multi-lane interstate with heavy truck traffic.

The Virginia State Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash, including the actions of the motorcyclist prior to the collision.
