SCARBOROUGH, ME. (THECOUNT) — Bette Reilly, of Westbrook, Maine, was found dead Monday afternoon after she was reported missing. Her body was recovered from a pond in Scarborough, a coastal community in Cumberland County just south of Portland, authorities said.

Reilly was 47.

According to the Scarborough Police Department, emergency responders recovered Reilly’s body from a pond off Pleasant Hill Road in Scarborough at approximately 2:30 p.m. Monday.

Officials said Reilly’s body was located approximately nine feet underwater after an extensive search. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators said Reilly, who was from neighboring Westbrook, was last seen walking near the edge of the pond before she was reported missing.

The recovery operation was carried out by members of the Scarborough Fire Department and the Maine Warden Service.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner is working to determine Reilly’s official cause and manner of death. Authorities have not indicated whether foul play is suspected, and no additional details surrounding the circumstances of her disappearance have been released.

Scarborough Police continue to investigate the incident in coordination with the Maine Warden Service and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
