RENVILLE COUNTY, MN. (THECOUNT) — Blaine Skyler Minkel, 33, of Hector, Minnesota, was killed in a Friday afternoon crash involving a semi-truck on U.S. Highway 212 in Renville County, a south-central Minnesota region located west of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan area.

According to the Minnesota State Patrol, emergency crews responded at approximately 1 p.m. to the crash scene near Dupree in Melville Township.

Investigators said Minkel was operating a vehicle westbound on U.S. Highway 212 when it collided with an eastbound semi tractor-trailer.

Authorities have not yet released additional details regarding the circumstances leading up to the collision.

Minkel sustained fatal injuries in the crash.

He was pronounced dead as a result of injuries suffered in the collision, according to the State Patrol.

The driver of the semi tractor-trailer sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a Minneapolis-area hospital for treatment.

Renville County is located in south-central Minnesota approximately 100 miles west of Minneapolis and includes a mix of agricultural communities connected by state and federal highways. The county serves as an important transportation corridor for commercial and agricultural traffic traveling throughout the Upper Midwest.

Hector, where Minkel resided, is a small community in Renville County situated along U.S. Highway 212. The route serves as a major east-west highway linking rural Minnesota communities with larger population centers throughout the region.

Melville Township, where the collision occurred, is located within Renville County and is characterized by agricultural land and rural transportation corridors frequently used by passenger vehicles and commercial trucking traffic.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported that road conditions were dry at the time of the crash.

Authorities also stated that alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the collision.
