WATERBURY, CT. (THECOUNT) — Enrique Rivera has been identified as the victim of a fatal motorcycle crash Sunday morning on Interstate 84 in Waterbury, Connecticut.
According to Connecticut State Police, Rivera was operating a Yamaha YZF-R7 when the motorcycle crashed into a guardrail near Exit 23 shortly before 10 a.m. on Sunday, June 7.
Authorities said Rivera, who was from Waterbury, veered onto the right shoulder before the motorcycle struck the guardrail at the South Main Street overpass.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene and transported Rivera to a local hospital for treatment.
Despite life-saving efforts, he later died from injuries sustained in the crash.
The collision occurred along Interstate 84, one of Connecticut’s primary east-west highways. The roadway serves as a major transportation corridor through central Connecticut and carries commuter, commercial, and regional traffic through cities including Waterbury, Hartford, and Danbury.
Exit 23 is located in the Waterbury area near South Main Street, a section of the interstate that provides access to local neighborhoods, businesses, and connecting roadways throughout the city. Waterbury is situated in New Haven County and is one of Connecticut’s largest municipalities.
State police said the crash occurred near the South Main Street overpass. No other vehicles were reported to have been involved in the incident based on information released by authorities.
Following the crash, Interstate 84 remained impacted for an extended period while investigators documented the scene and collected evidence.
Authorities said the highway was closed for approximately six hours as troopers processed the crash site and worked to determine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
Investigators have not released additional details regarding factors that may have contributed to the crash.
The investigation remains active.
Connecticut State Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or who may have information relevant to the investigation to come forward.
