LODI, CA. (THECOUNT) — Two people were killed Tuesday in a multi-vehicle crash in Lodi, California, and an involved driver, Manvir Singh, was arrested and charged with felony vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run.
The deadly crash occurred along northbound State Route 99 near the Harney Lane interchange in San Joaquin County, according to the California Highway Patrol.
According to CHP officials, investigators are still working to determine what led up to the collision and how many vehicles were involved.
Authorities confirmed at least two people died as a result of the crash.
The identities of the deceased victims have not yet been publicly released pending family notification.
Jail records show Singh was booked on felony vehicular manslaughter and hit-and-run charges following the crash investigation.
Authorities have not yet released additional information regarding the specific allegations tied to the hit-and-run charge.
The collision shut down northbound lanes of Highway 99 south of the Harney Lane interchange while emergency crews, investigators, and Caltrans personnel responded to the scene.
Traffic in the area was heavily impacted Tuesday afternoon as authorities conducted the investigation and removed damaged vehicles and debris from the roadway.
Investigators remained at the scene for several hours documenting evidence and reconstructing the sequence of events leading up to the crash.
Officials later confirmed all northbound lanes had reopened, however, officials stated the northbound on-ramp near Harney Lane remained closed due to guardrail damage caused during the crash.
Caltrans said no estimated reopening time had been announced for the damaged ramp.
Authorities have not yet released information regarding possible impairment, speed, or other contributing factors.
The California Highway Patrol continues to investigate the deadly crash.
