NEW HAVEN, CT. (THECOUNT) — Jocelyn Hernandez, 23, of West Haven, Connecticut, died Saturday after a vehicle crashed into a tree along Woodward Avenue in New Haven, according to authorities.
The crash occurred at approximately 1:27 p.m. Saturday, May 16, on Woodward Avenue in New Haven, located along Connecticut’s southern coastline near Long Island Sound.

According to the New Haven Police Department, officers responded to reports of a serious collision involving a vehicle that struck a tree.
When emergency crews arrived, they located the crashed vehicle and multiple injured occupants at the scene.
Police said an 18-year-old male passenger from Bridgeport, who had been seated in the rear of the vehicle, was found lying on the ground outside the car.
Authorities said the driver, identified only as a 20-year-old woman from Bridgeport, and front-seat passenger Hernandez were found trapped inside the vehicle suffering from apparent injuries.
First responders immediately rendered aid before transporting all three occupants to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Officials later confirmed Hernandez died from injuries sustained in the crash.
Authorities said the driver remains in critical condition.
The rear-seat passenger suffered serious injuries that were described as non-life-threatening.
A preliminary investigation determined the vehicle had been traveling southbound on Woodward Avenue at the time of the collision.
Investigators have not publicly stated what caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle before it struck the tree.
Authorities also have not released information regarding possible speed, impairment, weather conditions, or seatbelt usage.
The crash prompted a significant emergency response Saturday afternoon as police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and crash investigators secured the roadway and documented the collision scene.
Traffic in the area was affected while investigators conducted the on-scene investigation and crews removed the damaged vehicle.
The New Haven Police Department continues to investigate the fatal crash.
