CATAWISSA, PA. (THECOUNT) — Ajay J. Woodward, of Numidia, Pennsylvania, has been identified as the victim in a fatal motorcycle crash Saturday afternoon in Columbia County, according to Catawissa police. Woodward was 34.

The crash occurred along Route 42, also known as Numidia Drive, near Catawissa. Authorities said Woodward was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle traveling southbound from Catawissa when the incident occurred.

According to police, Woodward appeared to lose control of the motorcycle while navigating a bend in the roadway. Investigators reported skid marks in the gravel along the roadside indicating where the motorcycle lost traction and was laid down prior to impact.

The motorcycle subsequently struck a guardrail, resulting in fatal injuries to Woodward. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officials.

Emergency personnel were dispatched to the location at approximately 4:45 p.m. Authorities shut down Route 42 between Kulp Road and Slabtown Road for several hours while police and county officials conducted an on-scene investigation.

Route 42 is a two-lane roadway that runs through rural portions of Columbia County, connecting small communities including Catawissa and Numidia. The stretch of roadway where the crash occurred includes curves and elevation changes commonly encountered by local and through traffic.

The crash remains under investigation by Catawissa police. No additional details have been released.
