Whittney Barrentine & Chester Brown ID’d In Oakman, Alabama Double-Fatal Crash

WALKER COUNTY, AL (THECOUNT)Whittney M. Barrentine and Chester G. Brown have been identified as the two people killed in a head-on crash Thursday evening in Walker County, located in north central Alabama.

Barrentine was 38. Brown was 77.

The collision occurred at approximately 6:29 p.m. on February 19 along New Oakman Highway near Gray Farm Road, about two miles west of Parrish, a small town situated northwest of Birmingham.

According to authorities, Barrentine, of Oakman, Alabama, was operating a 2015 Chevrolet Traverse when the vehicle collided head-on with a 2021 Toyota Tacoma driven by Christopher A. Brown, 50, also of Oakman.

Investigators said Barrentine was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Chester G. Brown, a passenger in the Toyota Tacoma and a resident of Oakman, sustained fatal injuries and was also pronounced dead at the scene.

Christopher A. Brown suffered injuries in the collision and was airlifted to UAB Hospital in Birmingham for treatment. His current condition has not been released.

The crash occurred on New Oakman Highway, a rural roadway that runs through portions of Walker County. The area where the collision took place is approximately 40 miles northwest of Birmingham, Alabama’s largest metropolitan area.

Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division responded to the scene and are leading the ongoing investigation. Authorities are working to determine the sequence of events that led to the head-on impact, including vehicle positioning, roadway conditions, and any contributing factors.

Head-on collisions are among the most serious types of roadway accidents due to the combined force of both vehicles at impact. Investigators routinely conduct detailed crash reconstructions in fatal cases to determine speed, point of impact, and other relevant factors.

At this time, no additional information has been released regarding what may have caused the crash. Officials stated that the investigation remains active and that further details will be made available once confirmed.

The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency continues to gather evidence and review findings as part of its standard fatal crash investigation protocol.
