FRISCO, TX. (THECOUNT) — Gracie Brito, a 16-year-old sophomore at Wakeland High School, has died from injuries sustained during a sledding accident that occurred Sunday afternoon in Frisco, Texas, officials confirmed Wednesday. Brito was involved in the same accident that claimed the life of fellow 16-year-old Wakeland student Elizabeth Angle.
Both teens were riding on a sled being pulled by an unidentified 16-year-old boy driving a Jeep Wrangler in the area of Majestic Gardens Drive and Killian Court. According to Frisco police, the sled struck a curb and then hit a tree, causing life-threatening injuries to both girls.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital. Elizabeth Angle died shortly after the accident, and Gracie Brito succumbed to her injuries after being listed in critical condition. No arrests have been announced in connection with the incident, and the Denton County District Attorney’s Office is working with Frisco police to determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
Wakeland High School officials described both girls as caring, involved students. Gracie Brito participated in Advanced Placement classes and cheerleading, while Elizabeth Angle was an active member of the school’s soccer program. The school plans to acknowledge the deaths during second period when students return, and counselors will be available to support students and staff through the grieving process.
According to family statements, Elizabeth Angle was the middle child in her family, with two sisters aged 18 and 12. She was remembered as outgoing, kind, and well-loved by her peers and teachers. Both families continue to mourn the tragic loss of the two young teens.
