MERIDIAN, ID. (THECOUNT) — Israel Castrejon Trejo, 27, of Nampa, Idaho, was killed Sunday afternoon in a shooting near a McDonald’s restaurant in Meridian. The suspect arrested in connection with the shooting is Jacob Streat, 23, also of Nampa, who currently faces second-degree murder charges, according to authorities.
The fatal shooting occurred near 195 E. Central Ave., close to the Meridian exit of Interstate 84. The Ada County Coroner’s Office confirmed Tuesday that Trejo was pronounced dead at the scene after suffering multiple gunshot wounds. Officers reported that lifesaving measures were attempted but unsuccessful, and Trejo was officially pronounced dead at 4:38 p.m.
According to Meridian Police Department, the incident was first reported to Ada County Dispatch around 12:39 p.m. by multiple 911 callers who reported gunfire near the McDonald’s parking lot. Witnesses told investigators that Trejo and Streat had confronted each other following what authorities believe was a road rage dispute involving two vehicles: a silver 2023 Toyota Tacoma and a blue 2009 Honda Accord traveling eastbound from Nampa.
Police said Streat allegedly fired more than a dozen rounds at Trejo. Officers arriving at the scene found Trejo unarmed and fatally injured. Streat remained at the location and was immediately detained without incident. He faces second-degree murder charges and was later booked with his bond set at $2 million. Authorities confirmed that Streat is scheduled for arraignment on Monday.
The shooting is considered an isolated incident with no ongoing public threat. Meridian police continue to investigate and review witness statements, video evidence, and other materials collected from the scene. Investigators are working to confirm the exact sequence of events leading up to the confrontation between Trejo and Streat.
Witnesses at the scene described the altercation as escalating quickly after the road rage dispute. Officers and emergency responders worked to secure the area and ensure public safety in the busy commercial corridor near the McDonald’s. Multiple surveillance cameras in the area are being reviewed as part of the ongoing investigation.
The Ada County Coroner’s Office identified Trejo publicly on Tuesday and confirmed he was a resident of Nampa, Idaho. Family and friends described him as a 27-year-old man whose life was cut short in a sudden and violent incident. Law enforcement officials have stated that Streat’s alleged actions are under review by the Ada County Prosecutor’s Office as part of the criminal case.
Authorities said that the investigation is ongoing and encouraged anyone with additional information about the incident to contact the Meridian Police Department. No further suspects have been identified, and officers emphasized that the incident appears to have been limited to the two parties involved.
The Meridian Police Department continues to coordinate with the Ada County Coroner and other local law enforcement agencies to ensure a thorough investigation. Police officials said that they are gathering all available evidence, including witness statements and surveillance footage, to support the pending criminal charges.
This fatal shooting adds to the list of serious violent incidents in the area, prompting local officials to remind residents to remain aware of their surroundings and report suspicious or dangerous activity to authorities. Police emphasized that the public should not attempt to intervene in confrontations on roadways or public areas.
