CITRUS HEIGHTS, Calif. (THECOUNT.COM) — Authorities have identified the driver killed in a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning as Mia Miskic, 33, of Fair Oaks.
The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office confirmed Miskic’s identity Monday. According to Citrus Heights Police, the crash occurred around 1:54 a.m. near Greenback Lane and Dewey Drive. Officers were alerted to the scene after receiving an automated crash notification from Miskic’s SUV.
When officers arrived, they found Miskic’s vehicle had struck a utility pole. Emergency responders reported that Miskic was unresponsive, and officers began lifesaving efforts immediately. She was transported by Sacramento Metro Fire to a nearby hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Traffic investigators with the Citrus Heights Police Department indicated that alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, though the investigation remains ongoing. Authorities have not released further details regarding potential charges or additional circumstances surrounding the incident.
Visibility at the time of the crash was approximately a quarter-mile, according to National Weather Service gauges, due to fog in the area. Police noted that environmental factors like low visibility may have contributed to the crash, but investigators are still determining the sequence of events leading up to the collision.
Citrus Heights Police are urging anyone who witnessed the crash or has additional information about events leading up to it to contact the department’s traffic unit at 916-727-5500. Officials stressed that all tips will be kept confidential to aid the ongoing investigation.
The intersection of Greenback Lane and Dewey Drive is a busy corridor connecting residential areas with commercial zones, and crashes in the area have prompted city officials to review traffic safety measures, including improved signage and lighting. However, it is unknown whether any existing safety measures would have impacted this incident.
The Citrus Heights Police Department is coordinating with the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office and Sacramento Metro Fire to review evidence, including vehicle telemetry and crash data, to determine the cause of the collision. Officers also plan to examine whether mechanical issues, speed, or other factors contributed to the crash.
Miskic’s family has been notified of her death. No additional personal details or statements from family members have been released at this time. Police continue to focus on gathering evidence and assessing all contributing factors, including the potential role of alcohol and environmental conditions.
Authorities emphasized that the investigation is active and ongoing, and no arrests or citations have been issued in connection with the crash. Residents and motorists in the area are reminded to exercise caution during periods of low visibility and adverse weather conditions.
