GREENSBORO, NC. (THECOUNT.COM) — Chas Sellers, 29, of Bremen, Georgia, has been identified as the pedestrian killed in a hit-and-run crash along North Carolina Highway 68 in Greensboro, according to authorities.
The Greensboro Police Department said officers responded around 7:33 a.m. Saturday to reports of a person lying near the roadway in the area of NC 68 near Gallimore Dairy Road. Greensboro Fire Department and Guilford County EMS also responded to the scene.
Upon arrival, first responders located Sellers, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Police confirmed his identity later Saturday.
According to a preliminary investigation by the Greensboro Police Department, the fatal incident occurred earlier, at approximately 8:35 p.m. Friday. Investigators believe Sellers was struck by a vehicle traveling northbound on NC 68.
Police said the suspect vehicle did not stop following the collision. The vehicle involved is described as possibly a white Infiniti Q50, though authorities noted that the description remains preliminary.
Based on the timeline released by investigators, police believe the collision occurred around 8:35 p.m. Friday, while Sellers was not discovered until approximately 7:33 a.m. Saturday, when callers reported seeing a person lying near the roadway. Authorities have not said how long Sellers remained in the roadway after being struck, but the time gap indicates several hours passed between the crash and the arrival of first responders.
No further details about the circumstances leading up to the crash have been released, including why Sellers was in the roadway at the time he was struck.
The Greensboro Police Department stated the investigation remains ongoing as officers continue working to identify the driver and locate the vehicle involved.
