CALHOUN COUNTY, AL. (THECOUNT.COM) — Sujit Ganguly, a 32-year-old Wellington, AL man, was killed Tuesday afternoon in a single-vehicle crash in Calhoun County, according to authorities.
The fatal collision occurred at approximately 5:20 p.m. on Alabama Highway 204 near Lloyds Road in Calhoun County, AL, the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency confirmed. Ganguly was driving a Chevrolet Corvette when the vehicle left the roadway, struck an embankment, and overturned.
Officials said Ganguly sustained fatal injuries in the crash and was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the sole occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident.
Alabama Highway 204 is a state-maintained roadway that runs through a largely rural portion of Calhoun County, AL, connecting smaller communities and serving as a commuter route for residents traveling between Wellington, AL, Anniston, AL, and surrounding areas. The roadway includes sections with curves and elevation changes that can present driving hazards.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, according to ALEA. Authorities have not released information indicating whether speed, weather conditions, or impairment were contributing factors.
Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency responded to the scene and conducted the crash investigation. Emergency responders arrived shortly after the collision was reported, but lifesaving measures were unsuccessful due to the severity of the injuries.
Wellington, AL, is a small community located in Calhoun County, approximately 15 miles northeast of Anniston, AL. The Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division routinely investigates fatal crashes on state highways throughout the region.
