Nick & Larissa Alexander ID’d As Deceased Father Daughter In Beaverton Oregon Murder-Suicide

WASHINGTON COUNTY, OR. (THECOUNT) — Police believe 46-year-old father Nicholas “Nick” Alexander shot and killed his 16-year-old daughter, Larissa Alexander, before turning the gun on himself. The tragic incident occurred in an apartment in Beaverton, Oregon, in what authorities believe was a murder-suicide.

Deputies responded for a welfare check at the Baseline Woods Apartments in unincorporated Washington County shortly before 10 a.m. Wednesday. A concerned caller reported that they hadn’t heard from one of the residents.

After entering the apartment, deputies found two people dead inside. The WCSO Violent Crimes Unit responded to the scene, and the agency said they do not believe there is any danger to the public.

WCSO spokesman Deputy David Huey confirmed that they were a father and daughter. The father, 45-year-old Nicholas Alexander, is believed to have shot and killed his 16-year-old daughter, Larissa “Juniper” Alexander, before shooting and killing himself. The weapon believed to be used in the shooting was found in the apartment, authorities confirmed.

Official determination of the cause and manner of death will come from the county medical examiner.

Nicholas Alexander worked as a corrections officer with the Oregon Department of Corrections, starting at the Oregon State Penitentiary on April 27, 2015, before he transferred to the Coffee Creek Correctional Facility in Dec. 2016. Records show that he was on a leave of absence as of Oct. 4. The Department of Corrections told KGW that Alexander was the subject of an internal investigation, though did not state specific details. On Monday morning, Alexander was also arrested for a DUII, Huey said.

Larissa was a junior at Century High School, located in the Hillsboro School District. “This is a terrible tragedy and our hearts are heavy. We are doing our best to wrap around students and staff, and support them as they process this unthinkable situation and grieve the loss of their friend and classmate,” the district said in an email on Thursday.

Century High School’s principal, Julie Kasper, said in a letter to parents that a group of counselors will be on campus all day to help students and staff, and provided a link to more mental health resources. “Our Century family is a close community, and any time we experience trauma and loss, it affects all of us deeply. It will take time to heal, but we will get through this together. Our thoughts and deepest sympathies go out to Larissa’s family, friends, and all who knew her,” Kasper wrote.
