Retired NY Sheriff’s Lieutenant Curtis Dailey Killed Monday in Richland Motorcycle Accident

OSWEGO COUNTY, NY. (THECOUNT) — Central New York has lost a respected member of its law enforcement community. Retired Onondaga County Sheriff’s Lieutenant Curtis Dailey tragically died in a motorcycle accident on September 30, 2024. He was 67 years old.

The accident occurred around 5:30 p.m. on Interstate 81 southbound in the Town of Richland. According to New York State Police, Dailey was traveling south when he lost control of his motorcycle, veering off the road and hitting a guardrail on the west shoulder. Despite efforts, Dailey was pronounced dead at the scene.

Dailey, a resident of Phoenix, New York, had a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. He began his service in 1980 as a dispatcher and officially became a deputy with the Onondaga County Sheriff’s Office in 1984. Over the years, he rose through the ranks, eventually serving as road patrol watch commander, a position of great responsibility. Throughout his career, Dailey earned numerous honors and awards, reflecting his dedication and service to the community.

In 2015, after 35 years of service, Dailey retired, leaving behind a legacy of commitment and excellence in law enforcement. The news of his sudden passing has left colleagues, friends, and family mourning the loss of a man who spent decades protecting and serving his community.

State Police are still investigating the exact cause of the crash, though no other vehicles were reported to be involved in the accident.

The Central New York law enforcement community, along with those who knew Dailey personally, are remembering him not only for his professional accomplishments but for his character and dedication. His contributions to public safety in Onondaga County will not be forgotten.
