Angel Aleman & Lydia Hernandez ID’d as Deceased in Lubbock Mackenzie Park Double-Shooting Involving Dog

LUBBOCK, TX. (THECOUNT) — The Lubbock Police Department has released the identities of the two victims killed in a tragic shooting that took place in Mackenzie Park on the morning of September 10, 2024. The victims were identified as 55-year-old Angel Aleman and 47-year-old Lydia Hernandez. Authorities are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting, which they have described as an isolated incident.

According to police, officers responded to the 300 block of Cesar E. Chavez Drive at approximately 8:18 a.m. after receiving reports of shots fired in the area. When they arrived, they found Aleman lying on the ground. Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead at the scene. Lydia Hernandez, who had sustained serious injuries in the shooting, was immediately transported to University Medical Center by EMS. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Hernandez tragically passed away shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The incident has shocked the Lubbock community, as both victims were well-known in their respective circles. While the investigation remains ongoing, police have not yet made any arrests or identified any suspects in the case. Authorities have reassured the public that the shooting was an isolated event, but have provided few details about the potential motive or what led to the deadly confrontation.

One of the more heart-wrenching elements of the case was the discovery of a dog, owned by Angel Aleman, who was also found dead at the scene. It remains unclear whether the dog was intentionally harmed or was caught in the crossfire of the tragic incident. The bond between Aleman and his pet has only added to the emotional toll this event has taken on those who knew him.

The Lubbock Police Department’s Anti-Gang Unit and Forensic Unit responded to assist with the investigation, carefully processing the scene for evidence. Law enforcement officials are urging anyone with information to come forward and help them piece together what transpired at Mackenzie Park that morning. Those with information about the incident are encouraged to contact Lubbock Crime Line at (806) 741-1000. Calls made to Crime Line can remain anonymous, and tips leading to an arrest could result in a cash reward.

This shooting has sent shockwaves through the Lubbock community, where violent crimes of this nature are relatively rare, especially in such a well-known public park. As friends and family of both Aleman and Hernandez mourn their loss, many are left with unanswered questions about why this tragedy occurred.

Mackenzie Park, a popular recreational area in Lubbock, is typically a peaceful place where families gather for outdoor activities. The news of this shooting has left residents in disbelief, with many expressing concern for the safety of their community. City officials and law enforcement are working to reassure the public that they are doing everything in their power to find those responsible and bring them to justice.

The loss of two lives, compounded by the senseless death of Aleman’s dog, has sparked an outpouring of grief on social media, with friends and family paying tribute to the victims. Aleman was remembered as a kind and caring individual who loved spending time outdoors, while Hernandez was described as a loving mother and friend who always put others first.

As the investigation moves forward, the Lubbock Police Department is focused on uncovering the truth behind the incident and ensuring that those responsible are held accountable. In the meantime, the community continues to rally around the families of the victims, offering support and condolences during this difficult time.

Though the investigation remains in its early stages, police have asked the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity that could aid in solving the case. They are also exploring whether the shooting was linked to any ongoing disputes or criminal activities in the area.

For now, Lubbock mourns the loss of Angel Aleman and Lydia Hernandez, two lives cut tragically short by an act of violence that has left a lasting mark on the community. As authorities work to provide answers, they ask for patience and cooperation from the public as the investigation continues.
