GRAND ISLE, VT. (THECOUNT) — A two-car crash is under investigation after 26-year-old Shantel Lynn LaFountain of Champlain, New York, died from her injuries Tuesday night. The accident occurred on US Route 2 near the intersection with State Park Rd around 6 p.m.
Police report that LaFountain was driving a Toyota Yaris when she rear-ended a Jeep Grand Cherokee driven by a man from Clark, NJ. Both drivers were transported to UVM Medical Center for treatment. Sadly, LaFountain died at the hospital, while the New Jersey man suffered minor injuries.
Investigators are uncertain if LaFountain was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash. They are seeking witnesses and can be contacted by phone at 802-524-5993.
Grand Isle Rescue, Grand Isle Fire Department, and South Hero Rescue responded to the crash.
The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
Grand Isle is a town on Grand Isle in Grand Isle County, Vermont, United States. The population was 2,086 at the 2020 census. A landing for the Lake Champlain Transportation Company ferry to Plattsburgh, New York, at Cumberland Head is located on the western shore of Grand Isle at Gordon’s Landing.
