GRADY COUNTY, OK. (THECOUNT) — Late Monday evening, the Grady County Sheriff’s Office conducted a welfare check at a home off State Highway 92 near Chickasha, where they found the body of Holly Jerman Miller.
Miller, 50, the executive director of Sand Sage of the Highlands Assisted Living in Mustang, was confirmed as the victim by friends.
Upon realizing the case might be tribal, the sheriff’s office called the FBI and stayed on scene until agents arrived. The FBI has since taken over the case, releasing very little information.
In this case, the Grady County Sheriff’s Office realized that the case could involve tribal jurisdiction and therefore called in the FBI, which handles such cases. This is why the FBI took over the investigation.
“Tribal” refers to the possibility that the case falls under the jurisdiction of Native American tribal law or involves Native American individuals or land. In the United States, certain crimes that occur on tribal lands or involve Native American individuals are under the jurisdiction of tribal authorities or federal agencies, rather than local or state law enforcement.
The FBI spokesperson stated that they are investigating the case as a “suspicious death,” adding that agents don’t have anyone in custody but assured that there is no danger to the public.
“We are deeply saddened by this loss and to hear of the passing of Holly Miller,” Discovery Senior Living officials said in a statement to KOCO 5. “Holly was not only a leader and dedicated team member, but she was also a mentor and friend to our community associates and our residents. She touched the lives of many, and she will be greatly missed. We are asking the greater community to keep Holly and her family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this difficult time.”
