SHELBY COUNTY, AL. (THECOUNT) — Rev. Harry Reeder III, longtime Briarwood Presbyterian Church senior pastor, has been identified as the victim in a Thursday vehicle crash in Shelby County.

Reeder, 75, was killed in a two-vehicle crash involving a dump truck Thursday morning in Birmingham.

According to reports, Reeder was operating a vehicle on Dunnavant Valley Road near Dunnavant Place in Birmingham, when the vehicle came into rear-end contact with a dump truck around 10:30 a.m. Thursday.

Reeder was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.

Reeder served as senior pastor since Briarwood founder the Rev. Frank Barker retired from the pulpit in 1999.

Briarwood Executive Pastor Bruce Stallings released the following statement:

“It is with a deeply heavy heart that I communicate to you that our Lord has called Pastor Reeder home through a car accident. Please pray for Cindy, Jennifer, Ike, Abby and their entire family as well as our staff and church family as we all grieve this tremendous loss together. But we do not grieve without hope because we know our pastor is with His Savior and has been received by grace with – ‘Well done My good and faithful servant.’’’

Reeder, also an author and podcast host, is survived by his wife, Cindy, as well as three children and many grandchildren.

The cause of the wreck remains under investigation.
