BROWARD COUNTY, FL. (THECOUNT) — Rick Allen, the drummer for rock band, Def Leppard, suffered a head injury after being violently assaulted by a teenager in an apparent sneak attack at a Broward County, Florida hotel.

According to TMZ, 19-year-old Max Hartley, of Ohio, was lying in wait behind a pole outside the Four Seasons Hotel in Fort Lauderdale Beach, when without provocation, he attacked the drummer, knocking him backward to the ground. Allen, 59, then his head hard on the pavement.

The report says a woman exited the the hotel in an attempt to help Allen, but Hartley also attacked her, also knocking her to the ground.

The woman got up and tried to run back into the hotel, but cops say Hartley grabbed her by the hair and dragged her back outside.

Hartley fled to another hotel nearby, but was ultimately arrested after he allegedly damaged numerous cars in a parking garage. The 19-year-old was booked for elder abuse, battery and criminal mischief. He was later released after posting bail.

Def Leppard is in Florida co-headlining a Sunday concert with Mötley Crüe at the Seminole Hard Rock Hotel and Casino.

The band did not respond to requests for Allen or the woman’s condition.
