WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA. (THECOUNT) — Sherry L. Shaffer, 61, of Derry Township, Pennsylvania, and Joseph M. Gshinsky, 35, of North Fayette Township, Pennsylvania, have been identified as the victims in a Saturday night head-on vehicle crash in Westmoreland County.
The two victims were killed when their vehicles collided head-on Saturday night in Derry Township.
According to reports, Gshinsky was operating a Jeep Cherokee on Route 981 between Flowers and Slag roads, when for unknown reasons, the Jeep crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes around 9 p.m. Saturday. The Jeep then came into head-on contact with a Honda CRV operated by Shaffer.
Both drivers were pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries suffered in the wreck.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
