BRAZORIA COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Jennifer Gonzalez, of Clute, Texas, has been identified as the teenage victim in a Sunday fatal vehicle crash involving a possible impaired driver in Brazoria County.

Gonzalez, 19, was killed in a two-vehicle crash near Rosharon Sunday morning. Rodrigo Santacruz, 21, of Jones Creek, Texas, was since charged with DWI in the deadly collision.

According to reports, Santacruz was operating a Chevy pickup truck on Sh-288 near FM-1462 in Rosharon, when the pickup came into contact with a GMC pickup truck parked on the shoulder around 4:30 a.m. Sunday.

The driver in the GMC was was not injured in the collision.

Gonzalez, a passenger in the Chevy, was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.

Santacruz was also transported to the hospital where his injuries were described as non-life-threatening.

According to officials, Santacruz showed “possible signs of intoxication,” and further investigation confirmed this. He was charged with Intoxication Assault, a 3rd-degree felony.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
