HACIENDA HEIGHTS, LOS ANGELES. (THECOUNT) — Bishop David O’Connell, an auxiliary bishop with the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, has been identified as the victim in a Saturday afternoon shooting in Hacienda Heights.
O’Connell, a priest and later a bishop in L.A. for 45 years, was shot and killed Saturday afternoon.
According to reports, the fatal shooting occurred just before 1 p.m. in the 1500 block of Janlu Avenue in Hacienda Heights.
Officials say O’Connell was found in a room with a gunshot wound to his upper torso.
The sheriff’s department said detectives are investigating the death as suspicious though no further details were released.
Information regarding a suspect or suspects were also not immediately made available.
