POTTER COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Kendra Vela, of Amarillo, Texas, has been identified as the victim in a Sunday night fatal shooting in Potter County. Trey Greenleaf, from Killeen, Texas, has been identified as the suspected shooter.

Vela, 31, was fatally shot while at an Amarillo hotel Sunday night. 29-year-old Greenleaf was taken into custody.

According to reports, the fatal shooting occurred at a hotel in the 4600 block of East Interstate 40 in Amarillo. Police responded to a call of shot fired at the business when Vela was found in a hotel room suffering from apparent gunshot wounds around 7:30 a.m. Sunday.

Vela was pronounced dead of gunshot injuries at the scene.

Greenleaf was traced to a hotel in the 1700 block of Interstate 40 East around 7:30 p.m. where he was arrested without further incident. He was booked into the Potter County Detention Center on murder charges.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
