COCKE COUNTY, TN. (THECOUNT) — Angela Barnes and Ruby Shults, both of Cosby, Tennessee, have been identified as the mother and daughter killed in a triple-fatal vehicle crash in Cocke County on Friday. Chad Pippen has been identified as the other fatality.
Barnes, 48, and her 77-year-old mother, were both killed in a head-on crash near Cosby on Friday night. The other involved driver, 49-year-old Pippen, was also killed in the wreck.
According to reports, Pippen was operating a Nissan Altima on Highway 321, aka Hooper Highway, near Baxter Road in Cosby, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes around 6 p.m. Friday. The vehicle then came into head-on contact with a Chevy Cobalt operated by Barnes. Both vehicles then exited the roadway and entered a culvert.
All three involved individuals were pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
