On Wednesday, the medical examiner’s office officially identified the body as Obi and ruled her death a homicide.

A primary cause of death was ruled “sharp force neck trauma,” however, officials did not detail the manner in which Obi died.

Police said they were questioning a person of interest in connection with the case.

It was initially believed investigators didn’t have evidence that foul play was a factor in Obi’s disappearance.

On Jan. 17, Houston Police Department homicide detectives searched an apartment complex on the city’s southeast side. Authorities said the apartment is about seven miles away from where Obi was last seen, and they were following a tip.
