GoFundMe For Ashari Hughes Las Vegas Teen Who Died Suddenly While Playing Flag Football Thursday

CLARK COUNTY, NV. (THECOUNT) — A GoFundMe for Ashari Hughes has raised over $22K and counting after the teen died while playing flag football Thursday in Las Vegas.

Hughes, 16, a sophomore student at Desert Oasis High School, collapsed on the field after suffering a “medical emergency” while playing flag football Thursday night.

School staff began rendering medical aid and continued until paramedics arrived. Sadly Hughes did not survive.

Her cause and manner of death are still pending as of Saturday morning.

Via GoFundMe:

We are doing a fundraiser for our daughter Ashari and everything helps. As a family, we are thankful. Ashari was 16 years old and was playing the game she loves, football. Little did we know this would be her final sophomore game. She was passionate, loving, and determined. She loved music, dancing, and bring around all the people she loved. She called football the real love of her life! She loved hard and was loved by many. She will be missed by all of us. Hold the #7 up high for her! It was her first football number and she always wanted to represent it well!

Desert Oasis High School Principal Ian Salzman wrote:

“It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that the student passed away. The school and the entire district mourn the loss of this young life.” continuing the student “suffered a medical emergency during an athletic event.”

A family member told KVVU that Hughes was playing flag football and was experiencing chest problems. She moved to the sidelines to take a break when she collapsed, according to KJCT8.

The family member also said Hughes had been having recent heart problems and was seeing a cardiologist. A doctor had cleared her to play sports, but given the ongoing issues, Hughes’ family was planning on pulling her from sports to evaluate her condition.
