LUBBOCK COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Monica Lumbrera, aka, “Mona,” has been identified as the victim found dead on a Texas highway Tuesday. Isaiah Sanchez, 24, was arrested Thursday and charged in Lumbrera’s death.

Sanchez was taken into custody Thursday by multiple agencies including SWAT and the Anti-Gang Unit in connection to the death of 40-year-old Lumbrera, whose body was found Tuesday South of Lubbock on Tuesday.

Sanchez was arrested about 9:20 p.m. in the 2100 block of Fourth Street and booked into the Lubbock County Detention Center on a count of murder, according to a Lubbock Sheriff’s Office news release.

Sanchez’s charge stems from an investigation by the Metropolitan Special Crimes Unit that began 6 a.m. Monday when Lubbock County deputies responding to reports of a vehicle versus pedestrian wreck near Woodrow found Monica Lumbrera dead on the roadway, the release states.

An initial investigation indicated Lumbrera had been laying on the roadway before she was struck by a vehicle, the release states.

Sanchez remains held at the Lubbock County Detention Center. His bond is set at $500,000.
