LATAH COUNTY, ID. (THECOUNT) — Idaho Murders Update: We are now learning the 911 call that alerted authorities of the fatal stabbing of 4 University of Idaho students on November 13 – came from the cell phone of one of the surviving roommates.
According to reports, the 911 call was placed by one of the surviving roommates, but police stopped short of identifying the caller.
Two female surviving roommates were at the house at the time and were not hurt, according to Moscow Police Chief James Fry.
The City of Moscow PD clarified its prior statements late Saturday, acknowledging the phone that was used to make the call, but adding, “the identity of the caller has not been released,” reports TMZ Sunday morning.

It’s unclear why cops don’t want the ID known, but they have gone back and forth about whether the community is safe, given that the killer/killers are still on the loose.
Police have said they don’t believe the surviving roommates were involved in the shootings. What’s puzzling … authorities believe the murders occurred sometime around 3 AM, but the 911 call wasn’t made until noon — 9 hours later.
The 911 call — logged at 11:58 AM, November 13 — requested assistance for an unconscious person … yet police say it was a bloodbath inside, with blood seeping through the walls onto the exterior of the house.
A big clue seems to be a series of calls made shortly after the victims returned home … one of them called a guy named Jack a total of 7 times while another tried 3 times, but police offered no further information.
All four victims were members of fraternities and sororities: seniors Madison Mogen, 21, of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho, and Kaylee Goncalves, 21, of Rathdrum, Idaho; junior Xana Kernodle, 20, of Post Falls, Idaho; and freshman Ethan Chapin, 20, of Mount Vernon, Washington. The women were roommates. The bodies were found around noon Sunday.
Detectives are seeking surveillance video from earby businesses and homes in the area between 3 a.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday, November 13.
It appears some of the victims put up a fight, given they had defensive wounds. Police believe the victims were asleep when the attack began. Police said early on this was a “targeted” attack.
Officials have not found the murder weapon, although they have checked local businesses to see if a Rambo-like knife had been recently sold.
Two of the victims were at a food truck shortly before then went home for the night and just a few hours before they were murdered.
Via USNews:
Chapin and Kernodle were seen at the Sigma Chi fraternity house between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m. Saturday. Police said it’s believed the two returned to the home by 1:45 a.m. Sunday.
Meanwhile, Goncalves and Mogen went to the Corner Club, a popular bar in downtown Moscow, from 10 p.m. Saturday to 1:30 a.m. Sunday. Then they visited a food truck on Main Street before using a ride-hailing service to return to the house by 1:45 a.m.
Surveillance video from the food truck shows Goncalves and Mogen ordering at the window, taking photos on their phones and chatting with friends in a segment of about 10 minutes.
Police said Friday that detectives do not believe a male seen in the video was involved in the crime.
