LEHIGH COUNTY, PA. (THECOUNT) — Anthony Rutch, of Macungie, Pennsylvania, has been identified as the suspect arrested in the fatal hit-and-run vehicle collision that killed 36-year-old bicyclist Alexander Zarnas in Lower Macungie Township, Spring of 2021.
Rutch, 49, surrendered to authorities Wednesday on charges of accidents involving death, homicide by vehicle, involuntary manslaughter, reckless endangerment and other offenses, said the county district attorney’s office.
According to reports, Rutch was operating a Audi when it came into contact with Zarnas, who was riding his bicycle on Mountain Road in Macungie on March 9, 2021.
Several witnesses told state police that they saw Rutch’s Audi flee the scene and return to his Rittenhouse Road home, about a mile away from the crash site. The Audi had front-end damage consistent with the crash, the DA said.
Rutch is out on $50,000 unsecured bail, court records say.
