FL Felon Reggie Lovett Convicted In 2017 Gainesville Citizens Field Drive-By Shooting Dead In Tuesday Motorcycle Crash

ALACHUA COUNTY, FL. (THECOUNT) — Reggie L. Lovett Jr., the Florida felon sentenced to prison over a 2017 drive-by shooting following a high school football game at Gainesville Citizens Field, has been identified as the victim in a Tuesday fatal motorcycle crash in Alachua County.

Lovett, 23, died in a Tuesday morning two-vehicle motorcycle crash near Butler Plaza in Gainesville.

According to reports, Lovett was operating a Suzuki motorcycle on Southwest Archer Road, when he ran a red light and came into contact with an SUV Tuesday morning. The owner of the motorcycle, a former UF student, has failed to respond to calls for comment.

Lovett, who was not wearing a helmet, was pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries at the scene.

The driver and passenger of the SUV were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

At 18, Lovett was imprisoned over his role in a 2017 drive-by shooting near Citizens Field that left four people wounded following a high school football game, according to Alachua County court records.

Initially accused of four counts of attempted first-degree murder, Lovett ultimately pleaded down to discharging a firearm from a vehicle and aggravated assault with a deadly weapon. He was ultimately sentenced to 30 months behind bars, according to court records. Records show Lovett ended up spending about 16 months in prison.

Five days before his death, Lovett was issued a summons for violating probation in a case where he pleaded guilty to domestic battery after assaulting and threatening to shoot the mother of his child. In addition to 12 months probation, Lovett was sentenced to 60 days in jail, reports WUFT.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
