Las Vegas County Official Robert Telles Arrested In Murder Of Reporter Jeff German

CLARK COUNTY, LV. (THECOUNT) — Clark County Public Administrator Robert Telles, a Nevada public official who was the focus of stories written by slain Las Vegas investigative reporter Jeff German, was arrested in the case Wednesday on suspicion of murder.

Telles lost a Democratic primary in June, in part, due to 69-year-old German’s investigative stories about his conduct in office. Some of the allegations against Telles included “emotional stress, bullying and favoritism.”

Telles was taken into custody after authorities searched his home for hours earlier Wednesday, the Las Vegas Review-Journal reported, citing Las Vegas police Sheriff Joe Lombardo.

Before his arrest, Telles was questioned by police as they conducted the search. When he returned to his home Wednesday evening, he refused to answer questions from reporters as he made his way inside, according to video posted to Twitter by Review-Journal reporter Brett Clarkson, reports NYPost.

Soon after, around 6 p.m., his home was surrounded by police officers in tactical gear while he remained inside, according to the Review-Journal, where German worked before he was killed Friday. The news outlet reported 30 minutes later Telles was wheeled out in a stretcher and dumped into an ambulance.

ORIGINAL STORY: Jeff German, a longtime investigative reporter for Las Vegas Sun and more recently Review Journal, has been identified as the victim in a fatal stabbing early Saturday morning near his las Vegas home.

German, 69, was fatally stabbed in what police are calling an “isolated incident,” outside his Bronze Circle home on Saturday morning. The suspect in the deadly incident remains at large.

According to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police, German’s body was discovered about 10:30 a.m. Saturday after they responded to a man down call at 7216 Bronze Circle in Las Vegas.

Police said it appeared German was involved in an altercation with another person outside his home when he was stabbed.

German joined the Las Vegas Review-Journal in 2010 after more than two decades at the Las Vegas Sun, where he was a columnist and reporter who covered courts, politics, labor, government and organized crime, a story by The Associated Press said.

He worked on dozens of investigative pieces for both papers and also wrote a book in 2001 on the death of Ted Binion: “Murder in Sin City: The Death of a Las Vegas Casino Boss.”
