VAN BUREN COUNTY, MI. (THECOUNT) — Darek Bullock Mills, of Niles, Michigan, has been identified as the victim in a Friday night fatal motorcycle crash in Van Buren County.

Mills, 27, was killed in a two-vehicle motorcycle crash in Keeler Township Friday night. 44-year-old Renato Florez of Covert, has been identified as the involved suspected DUI driver.

According to reports, Mills was operating a motorcycle on 90th Ave near 67th Street in Benton Harbor, when for unknown reasons, a Ford van, operated by Florez, crossed centerlines and made head-on contact with Mills’ bike around 9:45 p.m. Friday.

Mills and his 24-year-old female passenger were ejected from the bike during the violent collision.

Bullock-Milles was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries. The female passenger was transported to an area hospital with unknown critical injuries.

Florez suffered minor injuries in the collision.

Florez was arrested after showing signs of intoxication during a field sobriety test and having open “intoxicants” in his van.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
