CARROLL COUNTY, GA. (THECOUNT) — Richard Sigman, of Carrollton, Georgia, has been identified as the University of West Georgia professor arrested in a Saturday fatal shooting of freshman student Anna Jones at a restaurant in Carroll County.
“Rick” Sigman, 47, was arrested and charged with murder on Saturday afternoon after police say he fatally shot Jones.
According to reports, Sigman and another man engaged in an argument in the parking lot of the shuttered Courthouse Cafe in Carrollton around noon Saturday. At some point, Carrollton returned and opened fire on a parked vehicle in which Jones was inside.
Jones was rushed to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead of gunshot injuries.
Sigman a professor and Century 21 Novus Broker, was charged with murder, three counts of aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime. He was booked into the Carroll County Jail.
