RIPLEY COUNTY, IN. (THECOUNT) — Lenord Ray Sheldon Jr., and Beth Sheldon, of Elizabethtown, Indiana, have been identified as the couple involved in a fatal vehicle crash Saturday evening in Ripley County.
Ray Sheldon, 66, was killed in the crash, while his wife was seriously injured, in a two-vehicle crash in Johnson Township Saturday.
According to reports, Rebecca Ashcraft, age 68, Vevay, Indiana, was operating a vehicle on IN-129 near South Benham Road in Versailles, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and into opposing lanes around 4 p.m. Saturday. The vehicle then came into head-on contact with a vehicle occupied by the Sheldons.
Ray, an Indiana Cave Survey Director/ Bartholomew County Surveys Coordinator, was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
Beth was transported to an area hospital with unknown serious injuries.
Ashcraft escaped the crash with only minor injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
