OXFORD COUNTY, ME. (THECOUNT) — Michael David Shields of West Baldwin, Maine, has been identified as the drowning victim Monday in Oxford County.

‘Mike’ Shields, 54, died after drowning while visiting Aziscohos Lake Monday.

According to reports, Shields attached his boat to a mooring in front of his camp on Alca Flats Road, when he attempted to swim back to shore around 11:30 p.m. Monday. He went under and never resurfaced.

Shields’ family members drove 17 miles to Black Brook Cove campgrounds in Lincoln to call for help because of a lack of cellphone service in the area.

Officials say divers recovered Shields’ body around 6:30 p.m.
