SHELBY COUNTY, TN. (THECOUNT) — Bobby O’Jay, known as the King of Memphis radio, has passed away, according to a release from iHeartMedia Market President Kevin Klein.

Klein confirmed the news Tuesday morning.

Memphis radio DJ Bobby O’Jay inducted into Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame, reports Fox13.

O’Jay was born in Batesville, Miss., in 1953.

In February of 1983, he came to work in Memphis, to WDIA, a historic station.

He was a member of the Tennessee Radio Hall of Fame.
