PEORIA COUNTY, IL. (THECOUNT) — Scott W. Adams, of East Peoria, Illinois, has been identified as the contractor killed Thursday while working at the Caterpillar Mapleton Foundry in Peoria County.
Adams, 50, died after he apparently stepped off a ladder and fell about 20 feet into a hole at the plant in Mapleton Thursday morning.
According to reports, Adams was working for Schaefer Electric at the Caterpillar foundry in Mapleton, when he stepped off a ladder and fell around 20 feet down a hole in the flooring Thursday morning.
Adams was pronounced dead at about 11 .m. Thursday.
The Caterpillar Mapleton Foundry is located at, U.S. 24 in Mapleton, Illinois.
Caterpillar released a statement Thursday saying that it is “deeply saddened” by Adams’ death but cannot provide additional information on the incident because it remains under investigation.
“Our thoughts are with the worker’s family, friends and colleagues,” the company said.
OSHA is investigating the deadly incident.
