RUSK COUNTY, TX. (THECOUNT) — Kiante Marquise Smith, of Carthage, Texas, has been identified as the victim in a fatal vehicle crash Wednesday night in Rusk County.
Smith, 18, a recent graduate of Carthage High School, died in a single-vehicle crash near Henderson Wednesday night.
According to reports, Smith was operating a Chevrolet Malibu on FM 839 near Henderson, when for unknown reasons, the vehicle crossed centerlines and exited the roadway around 7:30 p.m. Wednesday. The vehicle then came into contact with a barbed wire fence before striking a mound and rolling over.
Smith, who was ejected from the vehicle during the wreck, was pronounced dead at the scene of blunt force trauma injuries.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
