INDIANAPOLIS, IN. (THECOUNT) — Al Unser Sr., who won the Indianapolis 500 four times, has died overnight after battling cancer for years. He was 82.
Unser Sr.’s son, Al Unser Jr., confirmed the news in a statement on Friday … saying, “My heart is so saddened. My father passed away last night. He was a great man and even a greater Father. Rest In Peace Dad!”
Unser Sr. was a racing legend, he began competing in the sport in 1957 and later raced in his first-ever Indy 500 in 1965, reports TMZ.
