CA County Super Wilma Chan ID’d As Pedestrian In Wednesday Fatal Alameda Vehicle Strike

ALAMEDA COUNTY, CA. (THECOUNT) — Wilma Chan has been identified as the pedestrian in a fatal Wednesday vehicle strike in Alameda County.

Chan, an Alameda County District 3 Supervisor, was struck and killed by a vehicle Wednesday afternoon.

According to reports, Chan was walking her dog, when she was struck by a vehicle Wednesday around 2:30 p.m.

Chan was transported to an area hospital where she was later pronounced dead of blunt force trauma injuries.

Chan was first elected to the Alameda County Board of Supervisors in 1994, becoming the first Asian American to do so, and following time in the California State Assembly, she was re-elected to the Board of Supervisors in 2010. She was the first Asian American and first woman to serve as the majority leader in the Assembly.

“During her 30-year career in public service, Supervisor Chan had been a staunch advocate for children, families, the elderly, affordable housing and health care for the uninsured,” read a memo sent out by staffers following her death, according to SFGate.

Chan lived in Alameda, and is survived by her two children and two grandchildren.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
