WESTCHESTER COUNTY, NY. (THECOUNT) — DMX has died at the age of 50.

The influential rapper’s death was announced on Friday (April 9) after reportedly suffering an overdose that resulted in a heart attack on April 2, XXL is reporting.

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days,” his family said in a statement. “Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end. He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

A Youtuber going by the channel name “ACBN,” claimed earlier in the week that DMX had passed away.

In the 20 something minute video, posted to Youtube Sunday, ACBN says the rapper died after being hospitalized Friday following a drug overdose and subsequent heart attack in Westchester County, New York.

DMX, 50, real name is Earl Simmons, reportedly overdosed on an undisclosed substance, which triggered a heart attack, at his White Plains home around 11 p.m. Friday.

Reports say, the “X Gon’ Give It to Ya” hitmaker was taken to a hospital in White Plains, New York, where he remains in the critical care unit.

Sources say the rapper has “some brain activity” while another said he is in a “vegetative state.”
