SAINT LOUIS COUNTY, MN. (THECOUNT) — Estavon Dominic Elioff, of Virginia, Minnesota, has been identified as the teen fatally shot in a police involved incident in St. Louis County, Minnesota Saturday.

Elioff, 19, the great-grandson of Dominic Elioff, a Democratic-Farmer-Labor who represented the St. Louis County, Minnesota from 1979 to 1987, was fatally wounded after St. Louis County police opened fire following a foot pursuit near Mountain Iron Saturday.


According to reports, Elioff was suspected of shoplifting early Saturday afternoon at L & M Fleet Supply in Virginia shortly before a foot pursuit led police into the woods, said his mother, Jacqueline Martinez.

A police dog found Elioff in the woods about an hour later. During the confrontation, deputies first deployed Tasers, then two of them fatally shot Elioff.

Elioff was pronounced dead at the scene of gunshot injuries.

The cause of the deadly incident remains under investigation.
